The Research Institute of New Technologies started its work in 1994 under the name of the Center for Automation and Robotics Research at Amirkabir University of Technology. The initial location of the research institute was on the eighth floor of the Faculty of Textile Engineering. Following its success and growth, the center obtained an approved statute from the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in 1998, and its name was officially changed to the “Research Institute of New Technologies.” The research institute was then moved to its current location in the university’s Research Vice-Presidency building, located at the corner of Balavar Alley (above Vali-Asr Square).
After two decades of continuous effort to realize the strategic plan and implement short-term and long-term goals and defined missions, the Research Institute of New Technologies now has 4 research groups: Nanotechnology, Mechatronics, Robotics and Automation, and Advanced Materials, 4 specialized laboratories for different groups, 7 tenured faculty members, more than 20 affiliated faculty members, and more than 40 graduate students, research experts, and experienced laboratory experts.
The research institute has 7 commercial products, more than 25 successful industrial contracts worth 50 billion Rials, 13 registered patents, and more than 129 published articles. Thanks to the efforts of faculty members and staff, the research institute was awarded the title of Top Research Institute by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in 2011 and was ranked first among research institutes at Amirkabir University of Technology in 2013.
